The 20 Simple Things that will Help Reduce Global Warming
By: J.Morgan
Are you concerned about global warming but just do not know what you can do to make an impact and reduce global warming ? If so, then you are like many people out there who want to help but do not know how. You might be surprised to hear that there are many very simple things you can do that make a difference. Remember, even the little things can add up.
Here are 20 simple things you can do that reduce global warming:
.Install a programmable thermostat. These usually lower the heat and air conditioning at night and then raise them again in the morning. This can help you save up to $100 a year on your electricity use.
.Replace your regular light bulb with a fluorescent or energy efficient light bulb. If you do this all over your home, you will notice significant changes in your electricity bill. Also remember to turn off lights when you leave the room (even if you believe you will be coming right back).
.Clean and replace filters. Cleaning and replacing the filters on your furnace or air conditioning can save up to 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. You will also save a lot on your heating and cooling costs.
.Reduce the temperature on your water heater. Even a couple of degrees can make a large difference in the amount of energy you use from water heating.
.Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket. This can greatly reduce the amount of energy which escapes from the heaters tank.
.Do not leave your electrical devices on standby. Unplug them when not in use. A device that is plugged in but not switched on can still use about 40% of the energy it would use while on.
.Replace your windows with more energy efficient ones. The payback over time is well worth the initial expenses you will need to pay for the new windows.
.Hang your clothes out to dry instead of drying them in the electric dryer.
.Take a shower instead of a bath.
.Use a low flow shower head.
.Recycle at home.
.Buy products with less packaging whenever possible.
.Recycle your organic waste.
.Reuse your shopping bags or buy reusable bags from the store.
.Buy fresh foods instead of frozen foods. They use less energy to make and they are better for you.
.Carpool whenever you can.
.Eat less meat.
.Keep your car tuned properly.
.Choose a more fuel efficient car when you need to buy a new one.
.Buy energy efficient appliances when you require new ones.
These things are simple, easy and require very little (if any) financial investment. Not only can they help with global warming but they can help you save a lot of money in the long run.
